About

For more than thirty years James has shepherded people toward a deeper presence of God, a deeper passion, and a deeper purpose.
Pastor James Byrd is the founding pastor of LifeSong Church and Founding Chancellor of LifeSong School of Ministry. For more than thirty years, he has faithfully led with a passion to see people encounter Jesus, grow in their calling, and become everything God created them to be.
He holds a BA in Bible and Theology and a Master of Divinity from Regent University. In 1995 he and his wife Shurece planted LifeSong in Stockton — a diverse church for a diverse city.
He leads with open hands. The work is not to gather followers, but to raise and release Spirit-filled leaders who serve the local church, carry the presence of God, and advance the mission of Jesus.

The book
Faith, Failure, and What God Places in Our Hands
James Byrd invites readers to see life through a different lens: everything we have — our time, gifts, opportunities, resources, relationships, and even our failures — has been entrusted to us by God. With honesty, pastoral wisdom, and stories from his own life, he explores gratitude, stewardship, faith, work, generosity, contentment, and the presence of God. This is not a book about getting more. It is a book about becoming faithful with what God has already placed in your hands, so that one day you can hear the words every believer longs for: “Well done.”

Joshua 1. God has already provided what you need and continues to prepare the way.
A word on taking the battleground of the mind back under the lordship of Christ.

Family
James and Shurece have been married more than thirty-four years. They have three sons — Noah, Luke, and Seth. Noah and Luke are married, and the family has grown to include two daughters-in-law and two grandsons. Before any pulpit, this is the room that shaped the pastor.
LifeSong
James and Shurece founded LifeSong Church in 1995. He also serves as Founding Chancellor of LifeSong School of Ministry — formed to awaken, equip, and send Spirit-filled leaders for the work of the Kingdom.
We see a church where people experience a deeper presence of God, are filled with a deeper passion, and live for a deeper purpose.
Obedience to Scripture so that we may have life, and life more abundantly.
Life-changing encounters that happen when God is in the room.
We value prayer because it changes everything.
Equip and empower people for the Kingdom of God.
Contributors, not consumers.
Expect something good to happen to us and through us.
Expressive and genuine.
